What you'll find here

File tools cover the everyday jobs that stop people mid-task: an image too large to email, a phone photo an app refuses to open, a PDF that needs another page added or one page pulled out. Each tool does one job, so you can finish it and move on.

Every tool page says where the processing happens and what the tool accepts before you add a file. Tools marked as browser-local keep the file on your device. Image tools work with JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF files (the HEIC converter takes iPhone photos), and the PDF tools work on PDFs you add yourself.

Good places to start

  • Image Compressor — shrink JPG, PNG and WebP files and compare the result before you save
  • PDF to JPG — turn PDF pages into images, one or many at a time
  • Merge PDF — combine several PDFs into one and drag the pages into order
  • HEIC to JPG — make iPhone photos open everywhere, with a quality setting
  • Resize Image — set exact dimensions, use a preset, or aim for a target file size
  • PDF Compressor — strip metadata and reduce a PDF's size in your browser
  • PNG to PDF — put screenshots or scans into one PDF, in the order you choose
  • Word to PDF — convert .docx Word documents to PDF, in your browser
  • JPG to PNG — make lossless PNG copies of JPG files for further editing

How to choose the right tool

The file is too big to email or upload
For a picture, start with the image compressor; if the limit is about dimensions rather than size, use resize image. For a document, use the PDF compressor. Compress a copy and keep the original.
A photo won't open or upload
iPhone and some Android photos are saved as HEIC. The HEIC to JPG converter makes a JPG nearly every app accepts.
The format is wrong for where it's going
Use PNG for screenshots and anything with transparency, JPG for photos, WebP when the destination supports it and you want smaller files. The format guide explains the trade-offs, and the PNG, JPG and WebP converters above do the switching.
Several files need to become one document
Turn images into pages with JPG to PDF or PNG to PDF, then join PDFs with Merge PDF.
You only need part of a PDF
Split PDF extracts pages, and Rotate PDF fixes pages that scanned sideways.

Helpful answers

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded when I use these tools?
It depends on the tool, which is why each page states where processing happens before you add a file. Tools marked as browser-local process the file on your device and don't send its contents to a server.
Which file types can I use?
The image tools handle JPG, PNG, WebP and GIF, the HEIC converter takes HEIC and HEIF photos, the PDF tools take PDFs, and Word to PDF takes DOCX files. Each tool page lists exactly what it accepts.
Is there a file size limit?
Limits depend on the tool and on your device's memory, because the work happens in your browser. The HEIC converter, for example, accepts files up to 50 MB. For very large files, work on one at a time.
Will converting or compressing lower my image quality?
Converting between lossless formats such as PNG keeps every pixel. Saving to a lossy format such as JPG or WebP discards some detail each time, so keep your original and convert a copy.
