How to Convert Fahrenheit to Celsius
Formula: °C = (°F − 32) × 5/9
For example: 72°F − 32 = 40, then 40 × 5/9 = 22.2°C.

When You Need This Conversion
Weather: 32°F is freezing (0°C). Most countries outside the US report temperatures in Celsius, so travelers need this conversion constantly.
Health: Normal body temperature is 98.6°F (37°C). A fever is generally considered anything above 100.4°F (38°C).
Cooking: Oven temperatures in international recipes use Celsius. 350°F = 177°C (a common baking temperature), 425°F = 218°C (for roasting).

When to use this
You are checking the weather forecast for a trip to Europe and it says 22°C — is that warm enough for shorts? Or you are reading a recipe that says to bake at 350°F and your oven is set in Celsius. Temperature conversion between Fahrenheit and Celsius is one of the most common daily conversions, especially for travelers, expatriates, and anyone cooking with international recipes.
The formula is C = (F - 32) x 5/9. Subtract 32, multiply by 5, divide by 9. It is simple enough to do on paper but annoying enough that most people reach for a converter, especially when the numbers are not round. This tool gives you the answer instantly and includes a reference table so you can build intuition over time.
Good to know
The two scales cross at -40°. At exactly -40 degrees, Fahrenheit and Celsius are the same number. Below that they diverge again. This is one of those facts that sounds made up but falls directly out of the math — and it means that if someone says "it's -40 outside," you do not need to ask which scale they are using.
Quick mental math trick: double and add 30. For a rough Celsius-to-Fahrenheit estimate, double the Celsius number and add 30. So 20°C becomes roughly 70°F (actual: 68°F). It is not precise but gets you within a few degrees for everyday temperatures, which is close enough to decide what to wear.
Oven temperatures cluster in predictable ranges. Most baking happens between 325°F (163°C) and 450°F (232°C). Knowing a few anchor points — 350°F = 177°C, 400°F = 204°C, 425°F = 218°C — covers most recipes.
