Files stay in your browser — nothing is uploaded
Upload a photo to remove the background.
Best results come from clean subject separation, good lighting, and clear edges around the object you want to keep.
How it works
1
Upload an image
JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 10MB. Product photos, portraits, and pet shots work well.
2
Run the AI cutout
The image is sent to our background-removal server, processed in memory, then discarded.
3
Download transparent PNG
Use the cutout directly or send it into Resize, Compress, or PNG to WebP next.

When to use this
You have a product photo that needs a clean cutout for Shopify, Etsy, Amazon, or a pitch deck. You want a profile photo without the messy office wall behind it. You need to drop a person, pet, or object into a social graphic without opening Photoshop. These are the moments where AI background removal saves real time.
It is especially useful for ecommerce. Most marketplaces look better when product images sit on transparent or plain white backgrounds, but hand-masking every image is not a sensible use of time. Background removal lets you cut the subject once, then reuse the transparent PNG across storefronts, ads, and presentation slides.
It also replaces the frustrating part of tools like remove.bg: the free tier here gives you full-resolution output with no watermark. If the model gives you a clean cutout, you can keep it. No artificial downgrade after the work is done.
Good to know
This is the one clevr.tools image tool that runs server-side. Your image is sent to our AI server, processed in memory, and immediately deleted. Nothing is stored. The reason is simple: the BiRefNet model is too large to run reliably in a browser tab or Vercel function.
The output is always PNG. Transparency needs an alpha channel, and PNG is the safe universal format for that. Even if you upload JPG or WebP, the result comes back as a transparent PNG so you can layer it anywhere.
Complex edges are where AI matters. Hair, fur, fabric, and semi-transparent edges are the hard cases. The model handles them well on strong source images, but not perfectly on every file. Clean lighting and clear subject separation still help a lot.
Free tier is intentionally useful. You get 5 removals per day, full output resolution, and no watermark. That is enough for occasional product edits, profile images, and social graphics without gating the result behind a paywall.
Use the cutout as a starting point. Once you have a transparent PNG, the next steps are usually resize, compress, or convert to WebP. The result here is designed to feed directly into those workflows.
