When to use this

You're following a European recipe that calls for 200 grams of flour and 180 ml of milk, but your kitchen has measuring cups and a pound scale. Or you're a developer and a client's API returns file sizes in bytes but your UI needs to display megabytes. Maybe you're training for a 10K and your treadmill shows pace in minutes per mile while your running app uses minutes per kilometer. Unit conversions are small problems that interrupt bigger tasks — this tool eliminates the interruption.

The converter covers seven categories: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, and digital storage. Each category includes the full range of units you'd realistically encounter — from millimeters to miles, milligrams to metric tons, bits to petabytes. Type a value on either side and the other updates instantly. No dropdowns to navigate, no "convert" button to click.

It's especially useful when you're working across measurement systems. The US uses feet, pounds, Fahrenheit, and gallons; most of the world uses meters, kilograms, Celsius, and liters. International collaboration — whether in cooking, engineering, fitness, or software — means you'll hit this friction regularly. Bookmark the converter and it's always one tab away.

Good to know

Temperature is the only non-linear conversion. Length, weight, and volume are all simple multiplication (1 inch is always 2.54 cm). Temperature requires both multiplication and addition because Fahrenheit and Celsius have different zero points. The formula is F = (C x 9/5) + 32. Kelvin is simpler: K = C + 273.15.

Digital storage has two standards. In the SI (decimal) system, 1 GB = 1,000 MB. In the binary (IEC) system used by operating systems, 1 GiB = 1,024 MiB. This is why a "500 GB" hard drive shows as ~465 GB in your file manager. This converter uses binary (1,024-based) values, which matches what your OS reports.

Fluid ounces and weight ounces are different units. A fluid ounce measures volume; a weight ounce measures mass. They happen to be close for water (1 fl oz of water weighs about 1 oz), but for other liquids the numbers diverge. Make sure you're converting the right type.

Bidirectional editing saves time. You don't need to swap "from" and "to" fields. Just type in whichever field you have the value for and the other field updates. This is faster than most converter tools that force a one-directional flow.
